Coronation Street's Bill Tarmey to release autobiography

Corrie star Bill Tarmey is to release his autobiography later this year, according to reports. The 69-year-old actor has played Jack Duckworth on the Weatherfield drama since 1979.

The star will reportedly tell-all about his personal life and experiences on the Manchester-based soap.

His life story is to be called Being Jack - My Life on the Street and Other Adventures.

According to The Bookseller, publisher Simon & Schuster bought the rights to the title for a "healthy six-figure sum".

Kerri Sharp, Simon & Schuster's commissioning editor for non-fiction, commented: "The book is a must for fans of both Coronation Street and of classic British TV."

Tarmey is to leave Corrie later this year after three decades of playing Jack.

His departure from the show is expected to play a part in Coronation Street's 50th anniversary celebrations.

Hardback copies of Bill's autobiography will be available in the shops in October.
