This time last year, Scotland was immersed in Susan Boyle fever as the Blackburn singer headed into the Britain’s Got Talent final.
This year, the nation is pinning its hopes on 81 year old granny Janey Cutler, who has taken the world by storm with her powerful voice and infectious giggle.
Janey has remained extremely down to earth since she hit the headlines after her BGT audition, commenting that she is having “a wonderful time” and not concerning herself with the thought of winning.
Having made it into the final though, Janey has vowed: "I'll make Scotland proud."
According to the Daily Record, she has even placed a cheeky bet on tonight’s show but her son, Drew, revealed: "If she did, it would be for dancing dog Chandi. She loves dogs."
Being watched by millions of viewers around the country is a far cry from singing in the local working men’s clubs that Mrs Cutler is used to, but she hasn’t let that phase her, dazzling in the semi-final in a red dress and matching red lips as she sang Shirley Bassey’s This is my Life.
Tonight she will be in her element as she once again performs Edith Piaf’s Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien. Drew said: "She can do that blindfolded. She's been doing it for 40 years."
Friends and family will be nervously watching Janey perform as they party in her local pub, the Victoria Bar in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, which has been decked out with banners and posters especially for the star.
Whatever happens, the great-granny has been on a remarkable journey and as Simon Cowell remarked, we will ‘remember her performance for a long time to come.’
