Tobias Mead won over the hearts of the British public when he body-popped and danced his way through the first Britain’s Got Talent audition show of 2010.
Spelbound were the first act to secure a place in the final after receiving the largest share of the public vote. Tobias and Olivia were the next most-voted for contestants. All three judges voted for Tobias with Piers saying he liked the fact the dancer’s semi-final routine was very “different compared to the first audition.”
The 22-year-old mesmerised the judges and audience in the first round with his head-turning, body twisting moves, making him a favourite to make it to the live semi-finals.
Now he has gone one better and been voted into Saturday night’s live final to compete for the £100,000 prize money and the chance to perform for the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance.
Speaking in his VT, Tobias vowed to take a risk in his semi-final performance and he did not disappoint as he showcased his inventive routine which included a gravity defying magic trick with a spinning ball and some pole dancing street moves.
Joining Ant and Dec after his moment in the spotlight, Tobias said: “That was incredible, the best thing I’ve ever done.”
HAVING A BALL
Piers Morgan, who had been sceptical of Tobias’ initial audition, admitted he was won over by the 22-year-old: “Tobias that is what happens when you listen to the advice of Mr Street Dance. That was one of the most creative performances I’ve seen on Britain’s Got talent.”
Amanda, who was also in awe of the dancer, added: "I would like to see more on the pole but that was brilliant."
Simon agreed with both judges: “I thought that was really, really smart. To do something on your own is really tough but you managed it, I though it was outstanding.”
Britain’s Got Talent has changed Mead’s life in more ways than one as it has helped heal a rift between Tobias and his brothers.
Mead told a newspaper that his family eventually disowned him after he decided to pursue a career in dance.
However, after his performance on the talent show his brothers got in touch.
Mead told The Sun: "My brothers got in contact with me over the last few days. They said they were sorry we hadn't spoken for so long.
"They apologised for everything in the past and said they didn't realise how much the teasing and mocking of my dancing had affected me."
He added: "I apologised that they had to see the stories in the papers. But now the past is the past.
"We're all willing to forgive and forget any issues that have gone on. I'm just grateful to have their full support."
