Coronation Street star Keith Duffy has reportedly announced that he is to be leaving the cobbled streets of Weatherfield. The Boyzone singer revealed that the decision not to renew his contract in November was a "hard choice".
Producers of the show wanted the Irish star to stay but he decided that he needs to concentrate on his music commitments.
Duffy, rejoined the soap in February as Rovers Return barman Ciaran McCarthy.
Boyzone's first album since the death of band member Stephen Gately went into number one in the UK charts and a tour and promotional work in South East Asia has been lined up for 2011.
The 35-year-old singer said he had made good friends on the Manchester drama and will be sad to leave.
However, he told The People: "I need to concentrate on being with the boys. We've got a lot coming up so I've decided they'll take priority.
"I love the show so it's been a hard decision. But I know it's right."
Duffy recently admitted that his stint on Coronation Street had provided a focus following the death of Gately.
