Ricky Whittle didn't want to be killed in 'Hollyoaks'.

The actor - who portrays hunky ex-policeman Calvin Valentine in the Channel 4 soap - has had such a good time working on the show, he was disappointed when he was told his alter-ego would die.

He said: "I am happy with my exit storyline because it's so dramatic, but I didn't want to die. I've really enjoyed working at 'Hollyoaks' and would have liked the option to return..."

The lothario character has a very troubled time ahead of him as his mistress Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) lashes out at him, he splits from and then reunited with his ex-wife Carmel Valentine (Gemma Merna) and falls into bed with their teenage cousin Theresa McQueen (Jorgie Porter).

During this time we see a flash-forward to his final episode in the show, in which he is killed after being shot.

He explained: "In the lead up to the wedding just about everyone's going to want to kill him. But right now all we know is Calvin has this beautiful moment where he marries the woman he loves - and then he gets shot in the heart."
