A source close to the 26-year-old told the News of the World that "Cheryl's love for Ashley hasn't gone" and that she wants some time to consider the future of their marriage.
Cheryl has decided to wait until after the World Cup in the summer before making a decision.
Ashley is said to have "taken hope" from the news that divorce proceedings are to be delayed.
An insider told the newspaper: "He's a lot chirpier.
"Officially nothing has changed and he knows he can't go back to the house to see her. But it's as if he thinks there's some hope again."
