X Factor boss Simon Cowell has contacted the FBI about alleged theft of recorded material, according to reports. The music mogul contacted the agency in a bid to prevent people hacking into the servers at his record label Syco.
Cowell reportedly contacted the criminal investigative body after recorded material was allegedly stolen then leaked online.
A Syco spokesman told The Sun: "Hacking and stealing of songs is a real issue for many artists.
"We are doing everything we can to catch those behind this."
It is believed that songs by X Factor winners Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis that were leaked online could be traced back to a supposed hack into the Syco computers.
In August 2009 The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) admitted that it was working with Syco and the police to trace the suspected leak of a Leona Lewis track.
An advance copy of the track 'Don't Let Me Down' appeared on a number of websites.
Head of the federation's internet piracy unit Jeremy Banks said: "IFPI is working with Syco and law enforcement agencies in the US and Europe to trace the individuals who stole the Leona Lewis/Justin Timberlake track."
