Just when the Dancing on Ice contestants were beginning to get used to tackling the live performances week-on-week, they are suddenly thrown a new addition to their partnership…the prop!
Chairs, hats, microphone stands, umbrellas and canes were all brought out of the prop cupboard and thrown into our contestants lives, bringing a new challenge to their Ice Dance journey.
As they say, it is easy when you know how and two people who fit the bill perfectly in providing a master class are skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.
Performing to the Elvis hit A Little Less Conversation, Jayne and Chris transported us to the Wild West with their cowboy-loving routine which featured some impressive flicks and tricks with their hats.
Speaking after the performance, the Dancing on Ice mentors explained the difficulty of working with such unforgiving props.
Reflecting on the effects the props has had on the contestants training, Chris said: “It has motivated them. They have all been struggling with the prop.
“It is an unknown quantity. You think you have your skating in order and then you are suddenly giving this additional piece of equipment.”
On the night, all of the celebrities managed to keep their new found friends under control however, when faced with the nerve-wracking skate-off, Danny dropped his hat after struggling to lift it from partner Frankie’s foot and was consequently voted out of the show.
There are now four contestants through to the semi-finals, Hayley Tamaddon, Danniella Westbrook, Kieron Richardson and Gary Lucy.
