Push off: Has Ant and Dec's new show put folk off?

Ant and Dec's new Saturday night show Push The Button has had viewers reaching for the off switch, claims a report. The light entertainment show is said to have lost almost two million viewers in just three weeks since the gameshow made its debut on ITV1.

Viewing figures have shown that Push The Button premiered with an audience of 6.6million but only 4.9million tuned in to watch the show last Saturday night.

The Geordie lads were beaten in the battle for viewers by the National Lottery: Who Dares Wins on BBC1, which was seen by 6.2million viewers, says the Daily Star.

Ant and Dec's latest TV show has been panned by critics and by viewers who have claimed that the programme format is a rehash of old gameshows.

One disgruntled viewer wrote in an online forum: "It's like a poor version of the Generation Game. I love Ant and Dec but something has gone wrong with this show."

An ITV spokesman has said that they are pleased with the audience figures for Push The Button.

He added: "Saturday's show steadily grew and peaked at 5.5m.

"The first series of Saturday Night Takeaway averaged at 4.7m viewers and that turned into a big show.

"Push The Button is above average for its first series and we are pleased with its progress."
