Sir Trevor McDonald is preparing to gain unprecedented access to the life of David Cameron as he works to uncover the public and private man who hopes to lead the next Government.

This interview follows on from Gordon Brown’s highly publicised interview with Piers Morgan, broadcast on Valentines Day, which hit the headlines after the PM opened up about the death of his daughter and his highly speculated relationship with Tony Blair.

Sir Trevor will follow the Conservative leader over the coming days and observe the politician in his day-to-day activities in the run-up to the General Election.

Speaking about the behind the scenes interview, Sir Trevor said: “At such a fascinating time, I’m delighted to be able to give viewers a unique glimpse into the life of the man who hopes to lead the next Government."

The decision of politicians to open up their public and private lives in this way is another step towards reaching the mass voter and pick up support ahead of the General Election.

The three big party leaders, Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg, will also make UK TV history as they take part in a series of televised debates over the next few months.

During these debates, members of the public will get the opportunity to put questions to the party leaders and allow a platform for debate on the swing issues.

The one-hour programme Trevor McDonald meets David Cameron will broadcast on Mother’s Day, Sunday, March 14 at 10.15pm on STV.
