Mikey Graham was the ninth celebrity to leave the Dancing on Ice family this week but with five still left battling it out for the top spot, Mikey says he feels like the winner as the show helped him mourn the loss of band mate Stephen Gately.

Speaking after his movie night performance to Ronan Keating’s solo song When You Say Nothing at All, Mikey said: “This whole experience got me through a difficult experience so I’m a winner all the way with this already, personally speaking. I’m happy, the party is over for me and it is time to go home now.

He added: “I hope that Ronan will be proud enough of the performances, I think I did him justice, it was a good song to go out on.”

Mikey began the competition strong, earning him a frontrunner slot however, as the competition advanced, a mixture of injuries, nerves and an increase in routine difficulty began to put pressure on the popstar.

“As soon as it started to get deeper into the competition and the footwork began to get trickier, I began to get a little bit more hesitant on my feet out there.”

Despite a wobbly first performance, Mikey stepped up a gear in the skate-off, nailing the required element solo spin and earning two out of the five judge’s votes, making it the closest skate-off so far.

“I just let go of all cares, inhibitions, I had a strong feeling it was going to be my last time to dance so I just went out and enjoyed it.”

There are now five contestants left in the competition as soapstars Hayley Tamaddon, Danniella Westbrook, Kieron Richardson, Danny Young and Gary Lucy battle it out.
