Corrie characters to marry as part of anniversary celebrations?

Coronation Street is planning a wedding to help celebrate its 50th anniversary. Leanne Batterby and Peter Barlow will tie the knot later this year, according to reports.

It is believed that the wedding will be aired in December to coincide with Coronation Street's birthday plans.

Leanne, played by Jane Danson, is to propose to Barlow in the Rovers Return.

According to the Daily Star she gets down on one knee in the pub and says: "I know I'm a nightmare and can be a stroppy cow at times, but Peter, will you do me the immense honour of marrying me?"

Peter (Chris Gascoyne) apparently replies by saying: "I will if you will."

Corrie bosses have not revealed many details of the programme's anniversary plans however, series producer Kim Crowther has revealed that it would be based around a "big event".

Crowther told Digital Spy: "It's just that the event may change!

"This is the ongoing discussion - it's still being debated and would have to be part of the story which is building."

Leanne and Peter have been in an on-off relationship since November 2008.
