BRITs: Jay-Z could be walking home with a BRIT for best International album
In the running for best International album are some of the biggest and hottest acts that rocked 2009.
First up, New York based Animal Collective, the bands extensive touring regime has earned them an platoon of loyal fans across the world. Their album Merriweather Post Pavilion, the bands eighth studio album was released in January 2009 to critical acclaim. Including tracks Summertime Clothes and My Girls, the band are set to take a hiatus from touring and work on new material.
They face stiff competition from The Black Eyed Peas, who single handled created 2009’s biggest anthems. Album The E.N.D (The Energy Never Dies) features all the UK number one singles including Boom, Boom, Pow, Meet Me Halfway and summer anthem I Gotta Feeling – one of the US Billboard’s longest number one singles of all time.
The Pea’s The E.N.D world tour is currently underway and winning a BRIT award would surely be the icing on the cake for a fantastic year for the creative four-piece.
Empire of the Sun are an electronic duo hailing all the way from Australia. Their funky sound has been causing a stir in the UK’s music scene all throughout 2009. Their debut album Walking on a Dream received positive reactions when it was released and singles We Are the People and Walking on a Dream were the chill out tracks to beat in 2009.
Meanwhile having come out of early etirement to release The Blueprint 3, it looks as though hip hop star Jay-Z clearly made the right choice. His eleventh studio album featured some of 2009’s hottest collaborations including tracks with Alicia Keys, Kanye West and Mr Hudson.
With an army of fans by his side, it looks as though Jay’s album will be the soundtrack to beat at this year’s BRITs.
Next, the only female in the running is Lady Gaga, who has become a superstar in her own right. If 2009 was the year of the Gaga, then her reign looks to set to continue well in 2010. Multi-platinum selling debut album The Fame includes UK number one hit singles Just Dance, Poker Face and upcoming track Telephone which also features pop diva Beyonce.
The Bad Romance star is set to perform at this year’s award ceremony in London and if going by English manners it would be rude for a lady to leave empty handed. Perhaps, this could well have her name written on it.
