Dr Hilary Jones wanted the all-clear from the judges this week but seemed to get in a bit of a spin over the required element.

After receiving his first batch of almost-positive comments from the judges last week, Dr Hilary Jones began training this week with an air of confidence.

Observing the improvement, mentors Jayne and Chris were hoping to use the opportunity to get in there and push him a bit more. Jayne said: “I think because Hilary had a good performance, it has given the confidence to go out and enjoy it.

But despite his best efforts, the doc struggled to keep his balance on the paired spin, finding his co-ordination hampering the fluidity of the move.

Partner Alexandra was a little worried about the spin as it featured at the beginning of the programme however Dr Hilary was optimistic, saying he hoped for the all-clear from the judges for the doctor.

The GMTV star performed to Truly Madly Deeply in a routine which  featured a teapot lunge, a Titanic pose, back spiral, stag lift and a couple of swoops.

Despite scoring 11.5, the lowest score of the night, the audience seemed to love it as they showed their support for Dancing on Ice’s oldest competitor.

However that didn’t cut much ice with Jason who sighed: “Oh Dr Hilary. The thing is, what is missing from your performance…well there are a lot of things missing from your performance particularly I have to say, you’re so stiff. Everything is slow and laboured. Plus we’re just not getting the content at all. It’s basically the same routine set to different music.”

Karen was more generous, saying: “I think there is improvement. I think it was your best routine, the lift was solid. But you only did one rotation so that’s where you lost marks."

Emma was also positive telling Hilary: “I’d like to say I think you have improved and should be proud of yourself. You’re doing it for the dads out there. You’re staying up; you’re sturdy you’re not falling on the ice.”

Other judges disagreed with Emma but she hit back saying he was, “much more sturdy than he was a couple of weeks ago.”

She added: “I think you’ve got some amazing fans out there who are keeping you in. You know how I feel. Everybody else is miles ahead of you but you’re doing a good job and should be proud of yourself.”
