Hayley Sanderson has claimed that The X Factor can have a negative impact on the careers of young singers. Sanderson performs every week on Strictly Come Dancing.

She has revealed that the reality show may give people the wrong impression of the music industry.

Talking about the programme she told The Metro: "It's great for Simon Cowell but worrying if that's what the world thinks music is.

"What if Neil Young, Bob Dylan or David Bowie auditioned? They're among the greatest singers of all time but they wouldn't get through."

She added: "My friend got quite far in one of those shows but can't get a job doing backing vocals.

"No-one books him because they worry the audience will ignore the main act and start talking about where they recognise the backing singer from.

"If you genuinely want to be a singer and don't just want to be famous, it can be dangerous, it can ruin your career."

Hayley joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2007 for the fifth series of the show and has recently been on the Live tour.
