Alice Coulthard wants new Emmerdale romance

Emmerdale actress Alice Coulthard has admitted that she would like her character Maisie Wylde to find a new love. Maisie is near to having a breakdown after discovering her boyfriend Ryan Lamb (James Sutton) is her half-brother.

Adding to Maisie's problems is her father's unexplained disappearance. She was always a Daddy's girl and is finding it hard to accept he has deserted them.

Coulthard told PA: "I hope she finds someone she can fall in love with and be content because I don't think she's very content as a person.

"She's always searching for some excitement."

Alice continued: "I think she needs to settle down. To be honest, I think she needs to get her own head together first but I hope she finds some comfort."

However, Coulthard said it was "too early" to think about a new relationship for Maisie as she continues a downward spiral.

The Woolpack barmaid turns to alcohol to try and cope but it just brings more problems and misery.

Alice said: "Maisie's using drink to help try and blot things out. This is far too big for alcohol to be any help though.

"In fact, it puts her in danger when she ends up having a drunken one-night stand with a stranger.

"She hits rock-bottom and feels dirty and full of self-hatred - even more so than before."

Eventually her mother Natasha (Amanda Donoghue) and brother Nathan (Lyndon Ogbourne) send to Maisie to a clinic for professional help.
