Good Karma: Mathew Horne will play Boy George's lover
Mathew Horne and the League of Gentlemen’s Mark Gatiss have signed up for the one-off show about the Culture Club singer. Worried About The Boy was written by Hotel Babylon’s Tony Basgallop.
The BBC Two drama will follow George's early years – documenting his first love, his developing style and meeting his bandmates.
It starts with George, then still George O'Dowd, leaving the London suburb of Eltham to work as a cloakroom attendant.
Newcomer Douglas Booth will play Boy George, Gavin & Stacey star Horne has been cast as Culture Club drummer Jon Moss, and Gatiss will portray music impresario Malcolm McLaren.
Moss is reported to have had a sexual relationship with George during the band’s heyday.
Ben Stephenson, controller, BBC drama commissioning, told The Guardian: “Worried About the Boy will be an evocative and visually enticing drama about one of our most iconic British pop stars.”
Worried About the Boy begins filming in Manchester later this month.
