The Glasgow auditions for Big Brother 11 - the last ever series of the fly-on-the-wall show – are being held this Saturday, January 30, and former housemate Mikey Hughes can’t wait to see what kind of people turn up.
The outspoken radio DJ, who has recently joined the SNP to try to get young people involved in politics, said he’d love to see another blind person, like himself, go on the show and make a success of it.
And he admitted that he’d love to see some ‘real characters’ to make up for some of the less entertaining housemates that have been on the show in recent times.
Mikey told stv.tv: “This year’s Celebrity Big Brother is really good, everybody seems to be enjoying that, so if they (Big Brother) can continue what they’re doing now and get some real characters in the house (for BB11) that would be good.
“I don’t know what I mean by real characters – people that are themselves, but entertaining. The key thing is just to be yourself, there’s no point inventing some flamboyant character, because you need to maintain that for three months.”
He added: “I would definitely like to see another blind person in there…I can’t see them doing that because they don’t like doing anything twice…but they’ve had everything, they’ve had transsexuals, they’ve had gay people, they’ve had disabled people, they had that guy with Tourette’s. But where do you go with it? I’m sure they’re scratching their heads!”
Mikey also had some advice for wannabe housemates – including warning that shrinking violets need not apply to be on the fly-on-the-wall series. He said: “If they ask the question ‘do you want to be famous?’ and you say ‘no, I’m not really interested in being famous’, well I don’t know how far you’re going to get. I’m not saying they want fame hungry people, but if you’re not that keen being in front of five million viewers, then don’t go on it.
“And the other thing is, they know everything about your life, everything will come out, loads of fake stuff will come out about your life. A lot of lies will come out, so you just need to let yourself know what you’ll be in for.”
The Big Brother 11 auditions are taking place in Glasgow on Saturday, January 30. Anyone who fancies being involved in the last ever series should turn up at the SECC from 8.30am. Entrants must be 18 or over by May 2010. Find out more by going to www.channel4.com./bigbrother
