Popstar To Operastar beauties Myleene Klass and Katherine Jenkins have said the show's not here to please purists.
The two classically trained musicians - who both appear on the STV reality show which launches tonight (15.01.10) - are concerned it will be deemed a flop if "purist" critics don't get behind the new concept.
Myleene, who hosts the show, said: "We're not here to please the purists. They are not going to like this show at all. They don't like there being a crossover with the mainstream or even the term 'pop opera'.
"So to put the idea on a primetime show will grate against everything they believe in."
Meanwhile, judge and mentor, mezzo soprano Katherine has vowed not to read reviews of the programme.
She added: "Core critics will not be happy but then they don't have to watch it. They're not going to be happy when you make something accessible to the masses. We are not making the show for them, and personally I won't be reading anything they have to say. Classical music is used on X Factor when the doors open and on adverts. It's always been there, just some people have never realised."
Katherine is to be joined on the judging panel by TV home makeover expert Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, tenor Rolando Villazon and Meat Loaf; while Myleene with co-host with TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh.
Popstar To Operastar will air tonight at 9pm on STV.
