Coronation Street may be scheduled for demolition, a report has claimed. The most famous street in the UK is set to be knocked down and relocated to a new site close to Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium.
Sources claimed that ITV chairman Archie Norman is in talks with Media-CityUK about a possible move to the £600m development in Salford Quays.
The proposals would see the cobbled streets of Weatherfield demolished and rebuilt at the new location.
MediaCityUK chairman Bryan Gray told Media Guardian: "We've offered space to ITV. They have a particular requirement, ie, Coronation Street. We've offered them a package.
"We had some quite detailed discussions but they came to a halt with the management of ITV changing.
"Since the appointment of Archie Norman as chairman and John Cresswell as acting chief executive, we've started discussions with ITV again."
ITV bosses have insisted that the Corrie set will not be torn down.
A spokesman told the Daily Star: "The Peel Group has been in contact with ITV and discussions have taken place. But Coronation Street will not be demolished."
