Tina O'Brien is to star in 'Waterloo Road'.
The 26-year-old actress had reportedly hoped to return to ITV soap 'Coronation Street' next year but plans were shelved following her split from Ryan Thomas - who plays builder Jason Grimshaw in the soap - amid fears it would cause too much tension on set.
A source said: "They would have had lots of scenes together and the atmosphere would have been unbearable.
"She's plumped for 'Waterloo Road' instead. It's a great offer and there's loads of ex-'Coronation Street' stars in the cast."
Tina and Ryan - who have 13-month-old daughter Scarlett together - have had a series of rows since splitting last month.
Eight days ago, 25-year-old Ryan was arrested following a confrontation with the actress, but was later released without charge.
He said afterward: "I have not and would never assault Tina. The police are satisfied this was the case."
Since the split, Ryan has turned to his on-screen lover Michelle Keegan for a shoulder to cry on.
A source said: "Ryan loves working with Michelle and they have become very close since he split with Tina.
"It has been a very difficult period for him but because he and Michelle spend so much time together he has been relying on her.
"Splitting with Tina and not being able to see his baby daughter every day has taken its toll and he was upset after he was arrested."
Michelle, 22, is in a relationship with club promoter Brad Howard, but they do not live together and have their own lives.
