Johnny Vegas thought he was only asked on 'Strictly Come Dancing' so the public could laugh at him.
The 38-year-old comedian was offered a part on the BBC ballroom dancing contest, but turned it down because he felt the rehearsal schedule would have been too demanding for him.
He said: "It's such a big commitment to do the show and I really was just so busy with other things and I just know health-wise - well, would it be good for ratings - me keeling over?
"I know how tiring it is and it's not something I have time to do at the moment, but it's nice to be asked. I think they were looking for this season's John Sergeant and I think they thought they'd found that in me."
Political reporter John Sergeant stepped down from 'Strictly' last year after his awful dancing ensured he finished at the bottom of the show's leaderboard each week, but was deemed so entertaining by the public, they kept voting to keep him on the show.
Johnny also revealed he would turn down any approaches to appear on gruelling jungle survival contest 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!'.
He added to website DigitalSpy: "No! no, no, no. The idea of being on TV 24 hours a day and people seeing the real me? No."
