A television presenter who called Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle "retarded" was facing calls for his dismissal. New Zealand TV host Paul Henry outraged thousands of viewers with his sick jokes about the Scottish singing star during his breakfast show on TVNZ, says a report.
The Daily Star reports that Henry had "mocked" Susan's learning disability on the TV show.
He said: "Here's the really interesting revelation - she is in fact retarded.
"And if you look at her carefully, you can make it out."
Thousands of viewers complained about the presenter's comments to bosses at the TV station and to the Broadcasting Standards Authority.
A spokesperson for New Zealand disabled group the Intellectually Handicapped Charity, said "very few" people would have thought that Henry's comments were funny.
She added: "Paul thought he was being funny but he wasn't, it was highly offensive. Very few people would have found it funny."
But the 49-year-old TV presenter has refused to apologise over the remarks.
He said: "This is water off a duck's back for me. These were light-hearted remarks.
"I can't recall a time that I've regretted saying anything."
