Saturday has become the most important night in the television week and two shows are in the middle of a ratings war. The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing are fighting for their audiences every week.
Strictly Come Dancing is approaching the semi-final stage and has announced another change to the show. However, could too many changes result in the show losing more than it gains? The dancers and the audience may start to lose interest if the show bosses cannot make and stick to consistent decisions.
The panel will be joined by a guest judge, who will stay till the end of the series. Professional dancer, Darcey Bussell, will be a fifth judge and the dancers will be scored out of 50 instead of the usual 40.
This week the celebrity dancers and their professional partners were put through their paces with either a rock and roll dance or The Charleston. Both dances are brand new to the popular BBC One show. The professional dancers were pushed out of their comfort zones, and even "King of the ballroom" Anton DuBeke, struggled in training.
The couples also performed – for the first time ever - a group viennesse waltz. The five remaining celebrities had to impress the judges with their dancing and creativity and were marked in a traditional ballroom manner. The judges were impressed by the group performance but some of the celebrities had described the experience as "carnage."
There are only four couples left in Strictly Come Dancing and it looks like the show bosses are pulling out all of the stops as the programme reaching the final.
The X Factor seems to be winning the war of the viewers so far and with people tuning in to see their favourite acts sing their hearts out, Strictly is going to have to fight hard to capture the British audience.
Striictly Come Dancing returns on Satrurday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
The X Factor continues this evening at 8pm on STV.
