Coronation Street actress Maggie Jones is said to be making a "steady" recovery following her recent health scare. The veteran actress was rushed to hospital last month after she reportedly ruptured her spleen in a fall.

Show boss Kim Crowther updated fans about the condition of the actress when she took part in a live webchat on the soap's official website.

Crowther confirmed that the 75-year-old is "looking forward" to returning to Weatherfield.

Kim commented: "Maggie is making a slow and steady recovery and we wish her all the best and can't wait till she comes back to work."

She has no firm dates as to when Jones will return to the Street, and said: "Hopefully Maggie will be with us when she can be."

Jones, who plays Corrie battleaxe Blanche Hunt, recently won the Funniest Performance accolade at this year's Inside Soap Awards.

But Maggie claimed that she wasn't amused by the antics of her Corrie character.

She explained: "I don't find her funny and don't think I could play her properly if I did.

"Blanche genuinely believes what she's saying is right, and doesn't say things for comedic effect. If I started trying to play the lines for laughs, they wouldn't come out right and the performance would suffer.

"Everyone knows someone like Blanche - or if they don't, they wish they did!
We'd all like to be as outspoken as her and have the nerve to say the things she does."
