Paul O’Grady to pay tribute to Buster on show

Paul O’Grady will pay tribute to Buster on Monday’s episode of his chat show, it has been announced, after the much loved pet dog was put to sleep yesterday.

The 14-year-old - a Shih Tzu-Bichon Frise cross breed - had to be put to sleep by a vet after it was discovered he was suffering from cancer, just over a week after he was retired from appearing on the host's self-titled chat show due to arthritis.

Buster’s appearances on the show were often a highlight for the audience, but had become increasingly infrequent as his health suffered.

A statement on the Paul O’Grady Show’s website read: “We're very sad to tell you all that Buster died yesterday after a short illness.

“Paul and all the team are devastated and will all miss Buster very much. He had a long and happy life. Paul will pay tribute to his best friend on Monday's show.

“Thank you all for your kind words, we know you will miss him as much as we will.

“Buster was a Shih Tzu/Bichon Frise cross. Having grown up on the Big Breakfast Show and Lily Live, he was happiest on television.

“From day one Buster was the star of the show and he's been known to perform the odd circus trick or two!

“He was awarded the 'Best Dog in TV' award by the TV Times magazine and we agree.

“RIP Buster.”
