'X Factor' contestant Danyl Johnson's "ego is out of control".

The 27-year old singer threatened to quit the show and stormed off after rehearsals on Wednesday (18.11.09), then managed to convince his mentor - show boss Simon Cowell - to let him change his song choice for Saturday (21.11.09) with only 48-hours to go.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Danyl's ego is out of control. He's rivalling Mariah Carey in the diva stakes.

"He's so desperate to win he can't keep a lid on his temper. He acted really badly the other night."

Danyl had been due to sing 'Praying For Time' on the George Michael themed edition of the show, but has now been allowed to swap to 'Careless Whisper'.

It is also reportedly the second time the singer has threatened to quit, the first being after he was voted into the bottom two acts' Sing Off in the third week of the show, on October 25.

After his crisis talks with Simon, the show boss reportedly made Danyl apologise to 'X Factor' staff he had been rude to, but later brushed off the incident.

He said: "It was always going to be one of those two George Michael songs and it turns out Danyl had set his heart on the other one, which we'd already practised a few weeks ago.

"The pressure and frustration got to him and he boiled over, but when he came in to see me and we talked it through he was as good as gold."

While the results of 'The X Factor's' phone voting are kept secret, former favourite to win the show Danyl's popularity has plummeted according to online bingo site 888ladies.com,which is running an independent poll.

They found Danyl the third least popular contestant, beating only Lloyd Daniels and John and Edward by winning only seven per cent of votes cast.

The most popular of the remaining six contestants according to the poll are Stacey Solomon with 36 per cent of votes and Olly Murs with 28 per cent.
