Alan Carr was inspired to write his autobiography by 'Big Brother' star Pete Bennett.

The TV host and comedian said he wasn't convinced by the idea of writing a book about his life until he saw a book singing by the former 'Big Brother' winner.

He said: "They were asking me to do one, and I was in Waterstones and I saw Pete from Big Brother and he had one, and I thought, 'you know what, if even he's got a book, I might go for it'.

Alan - who rose to fame alongside Justin Lee Collins presenting 'The Friday Night Project' - also said his publishers thought the least funny part of the book was when he told about his initial forays into becoming a stand-up comedian.

He added: "When I handed it in, the lady said that the first nine chapters were great, but the bit at the end, when I'm doing the stand up and getting famous is not that funny.

"I told her stand up comedy isn't funny. It's driving two or three hours to a gig to play for 20 minutes and then you get back and your flatmates are asleep and you get in at two and have a cup of tea.

"You're eating Ginsters pasties, you're waiting for the train at Sheffield station at 12 o'clock and there's a f***ing tramp there with you."

'The Sunday Late Night Project' DVD - a compilation of Alan and Justin's favourite clips and rudest outtakes from their time on the series - is available now.
