JLS say album 'ploy' helped them reach number one

JLS have managed to keep Robbie Williams out of the number one spot as their album reached the top of the charts. The band think that their sales were helped by a ruse where their record label issued five versions of their album.

The boyband's debut album comes in five different colours, each one featuring a portrait of one of the bandmembers.

Record executives hoped this would entice fans to buy multiple copies of the boyband's self-titled album.

Marvin Humes, Aston Merrygold, JB Gill and Oritsé Williams, were runners-up in last year's X Factor losing out to Alexandra Burke.

Marvin told the Daily Star: "I'm sure some die-hard fans bought all five versions.

"But then there will be some that could not afford them all so they just got their favourite member."

JLS sold over 200,000 copies but they band think that the record with Aston on the cover was the best seller.

Humes revealed: "He has sold the most hoodies and T-shirts so I'm betting the blue copies with Aston sold out the most because he's a young, cute stud.

"We do take the mickey out of him but I'm sure he's very popular with the fans."
