Coronation Street has been helping Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez speak English. The Argentinean footballer moved to the UK three years ago to play for West Ham before moving to Manchester United and finally Manchester City.

The sportsman began watching the Weatherfield soap after his team-mates suggested it would help him to understand the local lingo.

It has been reported that Brazilian player Robinho also used the Manchester-based drama to help learn English.

Speaking to Football Punk magazine about Corrie, Tevez said: "I like it.

"I don't understand some things because of the language, but it seems very good."

A source told The Sun: "Carlos finds it difficult learning English.

"But he's coming on in leaps and bounds now he's watching Corrie, although he doesn't quite get the dialect yet.

"By the end of the season we're hoping he'll be able to do away with the translator."
