Corrie star Gray O'Brien has admitted that his canal scenes with Roy Cropper (David Neilson) were difficult to film. His character Tony Gordon ends up in the Weaterfield canal with Roy after a confrontation between the two.
Tony is trying to silence Roy after he confessed to his part in Liam's murder to the cafe owner after suffering a heart attack.
O'Brien told The Paul O'Grady Show: "I'm not a great swimmer. You were standing in silt and you couldn't move.
"They were saying, 'Just pretend to swim'. I couldn't actually move my legs. I was glued!
"But we did the underwater stuff up at Fleetwood in a four-metre tank, and four metres is double the depth of an ordinary pool.
"Your ears go when you touch the bottom and stuff. I found it very difficult."
He added: "I have to say that David Neilson was absolutely brilliant.
"[But] I found it really difficult to hold my breath underwater."
Recently Neilson told Digital Spy that he did most of the canal stunts himself.
He said: "I did most of it. It was cold, it was late at night - 2 o'clock in the morning - it was only chest deep, but knee deep in... I don't like to think! It stank and you had to go under the water and let the water settle, then come up.
"I had to be under for about four or five seconds. It wasn't scary because it's all very controlled and you do it by numbers, you know what's required. You literally get your head down and do it, then it's over."
