Former Corrie star Tina O'Brien has reportedly won the chance to play the role of one of Anne Lister's lovers. The period drama covers the life of Lister, born in 1791, who is often called "the first modern lesbian" for her openly gay lifestyle.
Lister was a wealthy Yorkshire landowner who wrote a four-million-word diary. Around one-sixth of the diary is encrypted and describes her affairs.
Maxine Peak, best know for playing Twinkle in Victoria Wood's Dinnerladies and Veronica in Shameless, is to play Lister.
Tina has said that she looking forward to the role in the BBC drama.
According to PA, she said: "It's based on a true story about a woman who wrote all these diaries in code - they decoded them and found out she was a bit of a saucy lesbian and I play one of her love interests."
She added: "I've always wanted to do a period drama, with the costumes and everything."
The 26-year-old, left her role of Sarah-Louise Platt on Coronation Street in 2007.
Tina is soon to launch a new campaign for household appliances brand Indesit.
She said: "It's to encourage people to have fun in their prime.
"It's trying to show people ways to cut down on the bits they shouldn't have to spend so much time on, like chores."
