Dermot O'Leary finds hearing sob stories on 'The X Factor' "awkward".
The 36-year-old presenter, who hosts the ITV talent show, thinks the programme has become too obsessed with contestants' lives in previous years.
He said: "I find the sob stories quite awkward, so it's great that we don't really have them this year."
Dermot added he sees no point in getting caught up in the intricacies of hopeful's home lives as it has little to do with how well they can sing.
He told Zoo magazine: "At the end of the day, it's a singing contest. It's an entertainment show, so you have to try and veer away from it always being, 'a journey' or telling people, 'you've come a long way'.
This is not the first time Dermot has spoken out against contestants detailing their hardships on the show.
Last month, he was said to have angered bosses by criticising the practice.
He said on a UK chat show: "It's past 9 o'clock, I can say what I f***ing want. So, I don't care what your dream is. I don't care what you want to sing. And I don't care about your dead relative."
