Cheryl Cole came face to face with a former rival when a singer from failed pop group One True Voice successfully auditioned for new series of The X Factor, says a report.
Daniel Pearce, who had competed against Girls Aloud in Popstars: The Rivals, was given four "Yes" votes from the judges after performing his versions of Seal's 1994 hit 'Kiss From A Rose' in London, according to a report in The Sun.
The singer was given a standing ovation by Cheryl Cole, who told him: "I always thought you were fantastic."
One True Voice had lost out in the race for the Christmas number one to Cole's Girls Aloud in 2002 and were dropped by their record label soon after.
X Factor boss Simon Cowell ribbed Louis Walsh, who had acted as a judge on the show, for "letting Daniel go".
The Irishman responded by reminding Cowell that he had managed Girls Aloud and said that the boys had been mentored by Pete Waterman.
Last year Cheryl burst into tears and refused to judge Nikk Mager - a Popstars finalist in boyband Phixx -- who came along to the X Factor auditions.
