X Factor hopefuls given chance to apply by video audition

The X Factor: new video auditions.

This year’s X Factor wannabes are getting the chance for the first time in the show's history to belt their tunes out ahead of the audition stages.

The applicants, hoping to rise to superstardom in the seventh series, can now upload a video showcasing their singing skills and try and stand out from the crowd by taking advantage of this new online platform.

Making the early bid before the series returns to our screens this autumn, the video audition could well be the lynchpin that lands our star struck hopefuls a face-to-face audition in front of music mogul Simon Cowell and his fellow judges.

Contestants for the hit reality talent show can already submit their initial applications by phone, post or online.

Although the video audition is still an optional extra, it does give the possible next JLS or Leona Lewis the chance to shine ahead of the game.

The X Factor creator Simon Cowell said: "This is an obvious step forward for us and we will ensure that every clip is watched carefully and presents another opportunity for people to enter The X Factor."

Applicants who have already applied still have the option of submitting a video.

After recently announcing her pregnancy, there is already growing speculation as to whether Australian judge Dannii Minogue will return to the show for the seventh series with the birth of her first child colliding with the audition dates.
