Joe McElderry admitted that he quite likes the idea of being the next Zac Efron, after rumours emerged that Simon Cowell is to take the X Factor winner to Hollywood in a bid to make that happen.
Earlier in the week it was revealed that Cowell is planning to whisk the 18-year-old performing arts student stateside next year, to line him up for a number of lucrative projects that could net him £5million.
Apparently three major American TV networks and various Hollywood studios have contacted the music mogul about Joe. And it is rumoured that he will be in a perfect position to take over High School Musical star Zac Efron’s position, as the actor is now becoming slightly too mature for his current role.
An insider told The Sun: "Simon has already set the wheels in motion for Joe's Stateside success. He has been bombarded with offers from TV and film studios and is in the enviable position of having several incredible offers.”
The source added: "They all want someone to fill Zac Efron's shoes, as he's fast moving out of the teen market now he's 22.”
And when stv.tv asked about the speculation that Simon is planning to steer Joe in this direction, he said: “I heard the rumours,” before adding: “I would be happy to have a third of the success that he’s (Zac Efron) had.”
And he admitted that he’s a bit of a fan of the all-singing all-dancing feel-good films, adding: “Everybody loves a bit of High School Musical!”
