X Factor winner Joe McElderry has spoken of his "special bond" with his mentor Cheryl Cole. The 18-year-old was crowned champion during Sunday night's grand final after winning the head-to-head battle with Olly Murs.
The Geordie lad told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning that the pair had formed a special bond.
Joe explained: "I think that we have become really good friends and I would always go and sit in her dressing room and we would just chat. Not even about the show but just about things in general."
McElderry said that the Girls Aloud star was a "great mentor" and he praised he unique talents.
He said: "She was really nice and supportive to me throughout the competition."
Joe also said that he had made a "best friend" in rival contestant Olly Murs.
He explained: "I spoke to him on Sunday night and on Monday morning and honestly I couldn't have picked a nicer person to be in the final with.
"I have made a really good friend with Olly, he is such a genuine person.
"He is amazing and I think that he will do really well."
