The X Factor quarter finals week saw Welsh teenager Lloyd Daniels leave the show.  In a change to the format of previous weeks, the judges did not have the deciding vote to choose between the bottom two and 16-year-old Lloyd was voted off after polling the lowest number of public votes.

Lloyd had already escaped vote-off after being placed into the bottom two twice in the contest.  He said that he couldn't thank mentor Cheryl enough and was most proud of his performance of Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love.

In the week that the X Factor finalists got to No1 in the charts with their charity single, the five remaning contstants had to sing two songs - one by Take That and one from the songbook of Sir Elton John. The theme allowed the acts to showcase their ability to perform both up-tempo songs as well as ballads.

Simon Cowell's two remaining acts were Olly Murs and Danyl Johnson.  Olly performed Love Ain't Here Anymore and Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting.  Danyl tackled Relight My Fire and Your Song.

Cheryl Cole also had two contestants left - Joe McElderry and Lloyd Daniels.  Joe performed Could It Be Magic and Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word.  Lloyd sang A Million Love Songs and I'm Still Standing.

Dannii Minogue had just one act left in the contest, Stacey Solomon.  Stacey sang Rule The World and Something About The Way You Look Tonight.

Tonight's show also saw a group performance by the five quarter finalists.  The remaining contestants sang Scissor Sisters' I Don't Feel Like Dancing whilst negotiating a stage covered in balloons.

Also performing on this week's results show were special guests Alicia Keys, who performed a live medley of her songs, and Rihanna, who sang new single Russian Roulette.

Next week's semi-finals show will see Janet Jackson in her only UK performance of 2009 and Lady Gaga's first ever performance of her latest single Bad Romance on UK TV.  Rumour has it that the show will have a Michael Jackson theme.
