Former X Factor contestant Jamie Archer has revealed that he is a massive fan of Glasgow, after performing at the city’s Campus bar on Sunday night.
The rocker, who also goes by the name Jamie Afro because of his massive hairdo, told stv.tv in an exclusive interview that he can’t wait to come back to the city.
Speaking about the gig, he told STV's Gill Harvey: “Let me just put it this way, there is a reason I’m wearing sunglasses inside the building, and that is that the show was really, really good and the Glasgow crowd are a bunch of lunatics, and it was brilliant – and the party went on quite late, let’s put it that way!”
Crowds of people turned up to watch Jamie perform at the venue on November 22, one week after he was knocked out of the show. And the former contestant said he was moved by how many had come to support him, with huge afro wigs given out to the first 400 through the doors!
Jamie said: “It was great…people came along with scarves and stuff! When you’re in the show you’re a bubble, the whole week is geared towards going on stage and playing those songs.
“You don’t realise there’s a whole world of activity going on outside of the show, and when you leave the show you get to see it, and people they know all sorts of things about me, they’re wearing afro wigs and scarves and it’s brilliant. It’s really humbling that people care enough to do that.” He added: “We’re just regular people you know, we got lucky on a show. Yeah, it was amazing.”
And when the 34-year-old Londoner was asked if he’ll be making another trip back up north soon to entertain the Glasgow crowds, he added: “I certainly hope so. It’s a wonderful place to be.
“I’ve never been here before and the Glaswegian accent is very soothing, I can see when they put call centres up here!”
