The X Factor – week 7 result

Controversial contestants John and Edward Grimes’ luck finally ran out as they became the seventh act to be voted off The X Factor on Sunday night’s results show.

The 18-year-old twins had become the must-see act in recent weeks after repeatedly surviving the vote despite being weaker vocally than the others in the competition.

The boys have both intrigued and angered viewers with their over-the-top performances, which have included singing the theme song from Ghostbusters, and dressing up in red PVC suits to tackle Britney Spears’ hit Oops…I Did It Again.

But it seems that their charm has finally worn off, after they were voted out of the competition by the judges.

Singing for survival against Londoner Olly Murs, the boys performed a slightly out of tune rendition of the Boyzone hit No Matter What.

And when the deciding vote came down to Dannii Minogue – who has made it clear in recent weeks that she doesn’t think the boys should have still been in the competition – it was time up for the Dublin-based pair.

Tonight the remaining contestants gave an energetic, if slightly cheesy, group performance of the Wham! hit Wake Me Up Before You Go Go in fetching white and luminous coloured suits and dresses.

Last night, they all sang Wham! and George Michael hits. Stacey Solomon performed the moving ballad I Can't Make You Love Me, Jedward took on the upbeat pop hit I'm Your Man and Danyl Johnson sang Careless Whisper. Welsh teen Lloyd Daniels performed the popular hit Faith, while Olly Murs belted out Fast Love, and Joe McElderry slowed down the pace with Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me.

On tonight’s show, Scotland’s very own singing sensation, Susan Boyle, performed her cover of the Rolling Stones song Wild Horses, which is the first single to be released from her debut album. I Dreamed A Dream is released tomorrow (November 23), and despite the album not yet being on sale it has already broken a world record, after becoming the most pre-ordered CD in online retailer Amazon's history.

R&B/soul diva Mariah Carey also sang on the results show, to perform her latest single I Want To Know What Love Is and after being asked by host Dermot O'Leary if she was fazed being in the presence of Simon Cowell, the singer joked: "Of course we're all nervous when we sing in front of Simon, but I love simon!"

The right decision Jedward left. Lloyd will go next week. Stacey Solomon was great last weekend. She is getting better each week. There is no doubt she will win the X Factor this year.
