Sting received a frosty invite this evening from Simon Cowell to come onto the X Factor show. Cowell challenged him to come on to the show and deal with the contestants who “need a bit of your help” after Sting had criticised the show and the performers during the week.
Sting reportedly made scathing remarks about the quality and credibility of the show. He apparently branded X Factor as a "soap opera" when he was interviewed by the London Evening Standard.
The former Police member criticised the judges heavily, saying that they had "no recognisable talent" and indicated that the only reason they took part in the competition was for their own personal gain.
Simon was particularly angered by the comments that the musician made about the performers.
Sting told the newspaper: "I am sorry but none of those kids are going to go anywhere and I say that sadly."
Simon hit back at those allegations tonight on the show by naming some of the success stories of the competition: “I think this show or other shows have given people like Leona, Alexandra, JLS (and) Susan Boyle a shot.”
Leona Lewis, who won the third series of the X Factor in 2006, has been a massive success. Her debut single A Moment like This became the fastest selling UK single after being downloaded over 50,000 times within thirty minutes of its release.
