Rachel Adedeji became the fourth contestant to be knocked out of The X Factor on Sunday’s live results show.
The soulful singer went up against teen heartthrob Lloyd Daniels, whose performance of the Joe Cocker hit You Are So Beautiful was marred by throat problems. But despite an impressive performance from Rachel on Saturday’s show, as well as a powerful rendition of the Oasis classic Stop Crying Your Heart Out during the sing-off, she finally lost her fight.
Rachel was knocked out after the vote went to deadlock, with the majority public vote saving Lloyd. Both Rachel’s Dannii as well as Louis voted to save her, while Simon and Cheryl voted to save Welsh cutie Lloyd.
She’s been in the the sing-off twice before, going up against Kandy Rain and Rikki Loney in previous weeks – but her luck finally came to an end this week.
However, Rachel made sure to express her thanks for the opportunity she has had, telling host Dermot: "I just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me, it's been amazing and I got to meet so many lovely people…Dannii you are amazing."
Rachel now joins previous acts Kandy Rain, Rikki Loney and Miss Frank, who have been knocked out in previous weeks.
Controversially, John and Edward – who have been referred to as the “most hated” act ever on X Factor – survived the public vote once again. The Irish twins have been slammed for their performances over the last few weeks, with many fans of the show feeling that the boys’ singing talent is not up to the standard of the other contestants.
To open tonight’s show, the nine remaining acts performed a lively rendition – in rather fetching pink outfits - of the Aerosmith hit Walk This Way.
Rockers Bon Jovi took to the stage to perform their new song We Weren’t Born To Follow. Last year’s X Factor runners-up, JLS – who were met with delighted screams from the audience – also treated the crowds to a performance of their new single, Everybody In Love, before thanking both their former mentor Louis, as well as the public, for their success today. Louis told them: "You are living proof this show works if you’ve got the right act."
On Saturday the nine remaining acts gave their for the fourth week of the live shows, which had a rock theme. Geordie Joe McElderry sang Journey’s signature power ballad Dont Stop Believin’, while 18-year-old Lucie Jones sang her heart out on the Guns N Roses hit Sweet Child O’ Mine.
Danyl Johnson performed I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing by Boston bad boys Aerosmith, while Lloyd Daniels tackled Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl.
Competition favourite Stacey Solomon took on the Keane song Somewhere Only We Know, Jamie Archer sang Primal Scream’s Get Your Rocks Off.
Twins John and Edward, aka Jedward, took to the stage performing Queen’s We Will Rock You, and Olly Murs' sang the Beatles’ classic Come Together.
Rachel Adedeji gave a powerful rendition of the U2 power ballad One on Saturday's show, which impressed the judges – but clearly proved not to be good enough in the eyes of the public.
On next week’s live show, former X Factor winner Leona Lewis is performing her new single Happy ahead of the launch of her latest album Echo, and The Black Eyed Peas are also appearing on the show to sing their latest single Meet Me Halfway.
Acts who have already performed on the show include Whitney Houston, Robbie Williams, Westlife, and The X Factor’s very own Cheryl Cole.
