Cheryl Cole says this year's X Factor will not be so emotional

Cheryl Cole has insisted that she will not get so emotionally involved in this year's X Factor. She admitted that she got attached to the girls she mentored in last year's series, saying that she felt as if she could relate to them.

Cheryl and her band mates in Girls Aloud came together in 2002 during the reality show Popstars: The Rivals.

Cheryl told The Times: "This year I think I'll be less [emotionally] involved.

"This year I've got the boys, and there was something about them being girls, young girls - I felt responsibility for them."

The Geordie lass said that she felt "uncomfortable" when she first joined the show.

She said: "Then I started to realise that I could actually benefit these people because I know how they feel. I can help them."

Talking about her fellow panelist Louis Walsh, who was a judge on Popstars: The Rivals, Cheryl said he is "not really the same person".

Cheryl said: "I understand now how he felt back then - he'd never done much on camera before and he was thrown in at the deep end.

"I would say that I only got to know Louis working on this show."

She added that she is not jealous of fellow judge Dannii Minogue, saying: "I don't get jealous of women. I can't relate to it. It's petty."
