X Factor winners Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis will be pitted against each other after being nominated for a Brit Award in the same category.
The two stablemates will compete to win the best British single award at the ceremony next month.
Members of the public will vote to chose their favourite between Leona's "Better in Time" and Alexandra's recording of the Leonard Cohen song "Hallelujah".
Critics have said that the nominations will continue to fuel comparisons between the two singers although Alexandra Burke recently said that she was not a Leona clone.
She told Heat magazine: "At the end of the day, Leona is a fantastic singer and a fantastic person, but people need to realise that we are completely different.
"There is enough room for both of us. Leona is a little Mariah. With me, I hope I can show I'm a little Beyonce.
"I hope for what Leona's got. By next year, I'd love a Number one album and masses of support."
Both stars are signed to Simon Cowell's label Syco, which announced last week that they planned to delay the launch of Alex's debut album.
The decision to shift the release date to the autumn could see Burke go head-to-head with Lewis, who is scheduled to launch her new album in November.
