Last night saw the inimitable Sir Tom Jones take to T in the Park's main stage, proving to young and old alike that when it comes to crowd-pleasing crooning Tom is still in the premier league.

The sprightly 71-year-old knight of the realm stormed the main stage on Friday performing new tracks from recent album Praise and Blame to start with and then kicking things up a notch for the second half of the set with his more classic songs.

“Last year I played Latitude, and I had the Praise & Blame album out, so all I did was songs from that album” said Sir Tom prior to his performance. “Sometimes people could get a bit upset about that, and rightfully so – they wanna hear some hits as well. This time, at T in the Park, I wasn’t gonna make that mistake!”

So how did he feel about playing Scotland's most famous festival?

“For me this is fantastic – I don’t play many festivals, or haven’t done in the past. But this is great – you see all sorts of people. And nine times out of ten it’s a younger crowd.”

And of course, arriving on Fancy Dress Friday brings its own particular joys for a visiting superstar.

“I’d heard a lot about T in the Park, and as we were driving in I saw all the punters – who looked very interesting!”
