The Proclaimers aren't wasting any time, already on before their allotted stage time and embarking on some sprightly good-time rock'n'roll, quickly drawing a broad audience from all vicinities of the festival.

From there on it's straight into the first of numerous drink-sodden singalongs (well, alcohol will play a primary role for most of the participants), this one to Letter From America, the twins' harmonies provoking plenty of fists into being pumped skywards.

As far as struggling to win over audiences go, this isn't exactly Dizzee Rascal putting in a surprise guest appearance at the BNP annual conference. The Reid brothers could probably perform the entire set using nothing but kazoos and they'd still be a festival highlight for most.

Sunshine on Leith provides a more mournful moment, enough so that a poor young lady in the crowd caught on the giant video screens appears to have been moved to tears - or maybe she’s just heard about the weather warning for later in the day - but any sorrows don't last long.

Not that is should need noting, but it's their distinctly Scottish, perfectly pitched  song-writing talents that makes The Proclaimers such a natural inclusion for T in the Park, and such an enduring favourite, their lesser known songs such as My Life With You also cherished and still beautifully adept at inspiring singing en masse even in spite of the below-par conditions.

I like to imagine that in their dressing room beforehand Charlie turned round to Craig and casually enquired "So, what song do you think we should play last?", before everyone in the immediate vicinity burst into laughter.

But unfortunately, as they wheeled out I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) the crowd stayed rooted to the one spot, stony-faced and completely silent, even then being so ungrateful as to... Oh, sod it, you know what happened. Not even the rain could dampen the sense of occasion here, thank goodness.
