Though this night has more mainstream draws for the wider audience, thankfully T in the Park isn't averse to throwing on some more leftfield fare for us awkward supposedly muso types. (As though a band such as Dirty Projectors should be fenced off for such dorks...)

Anyway, such showcases afford us the opportunity to see much vaunted acts before they inevitably become far better known, meaning we are then able to crow about it for an absolute eternity to the few long-suffering friends who still put up with us. Huzzah!

Today's artistes in question are Dirty Projectors, though in truth even I'm a bit late to the New York six-piece, who have a couple of albums already out and have attracted a large amount of knowledgable punters to King Tuts Wah Wah Hut.

With no fuss, they immediately launch into a lolloping bass groove, guitarist/vocalist Dave Longstreth's yelped vocals superbly complemented by the sparkling, angelic harmonies of Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian and Haley Dekle.

The threadbare, intricate instrumentation weaves together in the background to utterly charming effect, pulling you into its idiosyncratic, enveloping grooves.

Seeing the beguiling likes of their rendition of Cannibal Resource, it's little wonder that alternative fairy goddess Bjork has seen fit to collaborate with them on an upcoming release. (Well, perhaps it is for some of the boozed-up bozos who have inadvertently stumbled into the tent, but best to ignore them as much as possible...)

"'Such a beautiful afternoon it turned out to be," notes Longstreth, "thanks for spending it with us." No no, thank you kind ladies and gentlemen!
