Pop singer-songwriter Gary Go may not be a household name yet but he is already familiar with playing in front of huge crowds. Having supported Take That on their Circus tour the singer has played super venues Hampden Park and Wembley Stadium in recent weeks but he was still blown away by the energy of the Balado crowd.
“We just played in the King Tut’s tent. It was packed, really cool and the audience were awesome,” Gary told stv.tv’s Laura Boyd: “We actually played at King Tut’s not that long ago in Glasgow but it was pretty cool to play in such a massive tent today.”
Having played everywhere from small clubs like Tut’s to huge stadiums it was clear that Gary had a favourite type of venue:
“I like the tents actually, its more intense. For some reason, it becomes more of a rock energy, just more…I don’t know, I like it a lot. We’ve just played Hampden Park recently which is a big outdoor space but there is something darker and a bit more sinister about being inside.”
Not that the rising star didn’t enjoy his experience supporting Take That at Hampden. He enthused: “That was amazing, had a really good time. We did three nights and the Scottish crowd were just awesome and very energetic. I was the opening act on the tour and just to be involved with something that big was a real privilege.”
So what does the future hold for the talented young songwriter?
“Next for Gary Go? My album is out now, my next single, called Engines, is out in a couple of weeks, . I’m just carrying on making music, in between shows I’m in the studio.” And following the Take That tour, Gary is going on tour with another pop megastar.
“I’m about to go on tour with Lady Gaga which is going to be pretty fun,” he said: “We started in Manchester, we did a show with her and she did some shows with Take That and now I’m going to go out with her around the UK and Europe.”
So how is the pop princess up close. Poker faced? “She’s great. I have a very soft spot for Lady Gaga actually.,” he confessed: “I think she’s a genius, a brilliant performer and I’m really looking forward to going on the road with her.”
