stv.tv caught up with Brian and Steven from one of Scotland’s fastest rising bands, The Dykeenies to get their take on the weekend and persuade them to perform for us.
Fresh from success on the NME/Radio 1 stage, the boys were clearly loving T in the Park and were surprised by the level of support they had.
“It was a good crowd,” said Brian: “and I busted some shapes, just off the cuff, spur of the moment stuff.” Steven was equally delighted: “Really good, the crowd was brilliant. I kind of expected just a few folk to turn up that had turned up last year but it was tenfold bigger, amazing.”
The hotly tipped band had been busy with promotional commitments and hadn’t been able to see many bands but Steven had seen enough to rate the headliners as the best of show: “It’s a toss-up between Kings of Leon and The Killers. I know it’s cliché but they were really good.”
Both were keenly anticipating Blur on Sunday night and Brian joked: “Me and Damon go a long way back so he’ll probably ask me to go up and sing with them.” And after a pause for comic effect he added: “I might go up. If it’s Beetlebum I’ll do it.
After raving more about T in the Park (particularly the catering), the boys promised that they would headline the main stage on two nights at next years festival. And on that bombshell they left us, but not before treating us to an exclusive acoustic rendition of new single Sounds of the City.
