Eliza Doolittle was born to a musician mother, director father and has legendary stage school Principal Sylvia Young as her grandmother, so it was only natural the London lady fell into a career in show business.
Eliza is signed to Parlophone records and following the success of debut single Skinny Genes earlier this year, she has just released her first self-titled album.
stv.tv caught up with the quirky singer at T in the Park ahead of her Sunday set at the festival.
Braving the windy, wet Scottish weather in a pair of Ugg boots she had been gifted backstage, Eliza confessed she was a “Scottish festival virgin” but said that she was looking forward to her T slot as she had heard Scots fans are a raucous crowd.
So how has life changed since Skinny Genes was released in April?
Doolittle explained: “I’ve kind of been taking it in my stride. I haven’t felt any difference apart from being busy.
“It’s nice to hear people recognising the songs and singing along.”
After celebrating her album release, Eliza will be heading straight back on the festival trail playing V festival and Secret garden amongst others this summer.
She will then go on tour with Paloma Faith which she is really looking forward too.
How does she feel about the charts being dominated by strong female singers at the moment?
Eliza concluded that this was a great thing but added: “We’re not a genre we’re a gender. Laura Marling said that, I hope she doesn’t mind me stealing her quote.”
Clearly supporting her gender, the singer told Laura she was hoping to catch Corrine Bailey Rae, Ellie Goulding and Skunk Anansie.
